Ear Candling Q & A
What is ear candling?
Ear candling is an alternative/ complementary medicine procedure that helps to reduce the accumulation of ear wax. During the procedure, I will insert a hollow candle into the external auditory canal of the ear. The candle is actually a long hollow tube that is tapered on one end. It is made of fabric that has been soaked in beeswax. The candle is lit on the wide end and the tapered end is shallowly inserted into the opening of your ear. The candle will burn for approximately 15 minutes. Once the candle is burned down to about 4”, the candle is removed and the flame is extinguished.
What are the advantages of ear candling?
Ear candling helps to soften ear wax for easy removal and increase both physical and mental well-being in the process. Ear candling, as performed by Sharon Shuppert, Dipl. OM, L.Ac., has been reported to:
- Enhanced hearing
- Reduced sinus problems
- Increased relaxation
Furthermore, by softening accumulated ear wax for easy removal, this procedure may help reduce pain associated with ear infections, minimize pressure that may contribute to tinnitus and vertigo, and reduce sinus pain.
Am I a candidate for an ear candling treatment?
Ear candling is an ancient complementary medicine practice that has been used for hundreds of years. This technique has been growing in popularity most recently. Still, the procedure may not be for everyone. During your initial appointment, I will go over your medical history, discuss your current symptoms, and explain the procedure to you in detail. Together, we can decide if ear candling is the best option for you.
